IFS
A New Way of Understanding Yourself

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a powerful and compassionate approach to understanding each person’s internal system — and healing from within. At its heart, IFS sees every person as having many different parts, or “inner emotions,” that make up their internal world.

These parts are not flaws or signs that something is wrong. In fact, IFS starts with the belief that the mind is naturally made up of different parts — just like a family has different members with different roles. And just like in a family, those parts can sometimes clash, feel overwhelmed, or get stuck in extreme roles as a way to protect us.

But at the centre of it all is something else — something stable, wise, and deeply whole.

That’s your Self.

What Are “Parts”

We all have different parts inside us - emotions or feelings that show up in different situations.

For example:

  • - One part might be anxious and always planning ahead.
  • - Another might be angry and ready to defend.
  • - A different part might feel sad, lonely, or stuck in the past.
  • - Another part might have experienced the pain of bullying and uses people pleasing as a way to cope.
These parts developed for a reason. Often, they’ve taken on difficult jobs to try to keep us safe - especially if we’ve experienced pain, stress, or trauma. IFS doesn’t try to get rid of these parts. Instead, it helps you understand them, build a relationship with them, and gently guide them into more balanced roles.

What is the Self?

In IFS, Self is the calm, curious, and courageous part of you that’s always there — even if you’ve lost touch with it.

It’s the part of you that’s never broken, damaged, or lost.

When you learn how to access your Self, you gain the clarity, compassion, and courage to lead your internal system — and to begin healing the parts of you that have been holding pain, fear, or burden for years.

What Makes IFS So Powerful?

IFS isn’t about giving you advice or fixing you.

It’s about helping you:

  • Understand your inner world

  • Heal old emotional wounds or exiles

  • Work with your emotions rather than against them

  • Reconnect with the real you

It’s often used in therapy, but it’s also a life philosophy — a way of relating to yourself and others with more compassion, calm, and clarity.

Who Can Benefit from IFS?

IFS can help with:

  • Anxiety, stress, or overwhelm

  • Relationship challenges

  • Burnout or chronic exhaustion

  • Trauma, grief, and emotional wounds

And it’s not just for therapy. IFS is used by:
